26/01/2018 Toyota SA Motors has issued a recall for over 700 000 cars due to safety concerns over faulty Takata airbag inflators. The defect may cause the airbag inflator to rupture, exposing metal fragments that could cause serious injury should it strike one of the occupants.

By using your VIN number, Toyota can check if your car is affected. A VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) is a 17 character unique code used to identify your individual car. You can find it on your car’s licence disc.

If your car is affected, you will need to take it in for repairs. Note that replacing the faulty inflators can take one to two hours at no cost to you.

You can use resolver to submit a request and check if your car is affected by doing the following:
  1. Search for “Toyota”
  2. Select the relevant issue and start your case
  3. Complete the form, ensure you input your VIN number, then review and send.
